The following ideas can be made in cardboard DIY, in no time flat!

Imagine to look upon this elephant from the top, make it all flat... it can be make in 1 piece, simply cut and folded ;)
Like they suggest here:
3- terrific ideas for general animal-shapes make of cardboard (or plywood if you know how to work with that...)
Again: same procedure. Imagine them from the top and then simply print your own model, cut and fold...
Perhaps using soft plastic sheets...
4- Also this rocking horse should be quite simple to recreate in cardboard, in 1 pieces, as a small desktop toy [link]
5- CNC-Cut Bent-Ply Bowls [link]
Basically if you print the top-left image, large enough, on strong paper or cardboard, then cut it and bend it... you should have a terrific toy kitchen bowl!
6- Various fornitures can be make out of plastic sheets. If you make them small, they will be perfect, inexpensive and DIY toys. Check it out:
